Pilotage and Port Entry Notes

New Zealand Customs require that all vessels bound for New Zealand report to customs no later than 48 hours prior to arrival. Email yachts@customs.govt.nz before you depart for New Zealand or ask Russell Radio to report for you.

Approaching Whangarei, arrange Customs clearance through Whangarei Harbour Radio VHF Ch 16 or 19. Proceed to the Customs Wharf, which is a barge located between Prot Whangarei #1 wharf and the shore. Note that Port Whangarei Wharves are not to be confused with the main commercial wharves at Marsden Point.

Depart the Customs wharf no sooner than half tide on the flood.  Keep 5-8 meters on the correct side of all channel markers.
