CHE, a 115ft aluminium Sunreef catamaran built in 2010, arrived in Whangārei following extensive global cruising and charter operations across the Caribbean and Mediterranean. Now undertaking an ambitious multi-year circumnavigation, the vessel required a comprehensive refit to support ongoing performance, reliability, and long-range cruising capability.

Length Overall (LOA): 34.7 m / 115 ft

Naval Architecture: Sunreef Yachts Sunreef Yachts

Whangārei was selected as the refit destination due to its ability to deliver a complete, integrated solution in one location. The yard environment enabled both haul-out operations and mast storage and servicing to be completed concurrently – a capability that was critical to the project’s efficiency. Access to highly skilled New Zealand riggers, along with a strong network of local marine trades, ensured specialist work could be completed to a high standard without logistical compromise.

A key advantage was the proximity of essential services and suppliers, allowing the crew to source a wide range of components locally, including rigging elements, pumps, and ancillary systems. Supporting marine businesses, such as anchor re-galvanising services located nearby, further streamlined the refit process.

Throughout the project, the vessel benefited from a secure and well-managed hardstand environment, providing strong protection even through challenging weather conditions. This stability delivered confidence to the owner and crew, allowing work to progress without interruption or concern for vessel safety.

Beyond the technical delivery, Whangārei also offered a highly functional and enjoyable base for the crew, with access to Northland’s coastline, diving locations, forests, and outdoor activities contributing positively to the extended refit period.
